Mass Awareness & Early Detection Only Way to Fight Cancer: Dr Y. Indebor

Stressing the importance of timely diagnosis, Dr Y. Indebor, Medical Superintendent of Karkinos Northeast Private Limited, stated that mass awareness and early detection are the only effective means to fight cancer.

He made the statement during the “Cervical Cancer Awareness Walkathon 2026”, organised by Karkinos Northeast Private Limited under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives”.

The awareness rally commenced from the Western Gate of Kangla and concluded at the Karkinos Hospital, Porompat (New Checkon).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Indebor said that cancer, which has become a major health concern among the people, can be effectively managed and even cured if detected at an early stage.

He noted that many cancer-related deaths occur due to late diagnosis and lack of timely medical intervention.

However, he added that if people seek medical attention after noticing symptoms, the chances of survival increase significantly.

Dr Indebor further pointed out that cervical cancer and womb (uterine) cancer are among the most common cancers affecting women, especially young women, at present.

He also highlighted that breast cancer cases are steadily increasing in Manipur, calling it a matter of serious concern.

He reiterated that most of these cancers are treatable if detected early through regular screening and awareness.

The walkathon saw active participation from doctors, nurses, medical staff and students, who marched together to spread awareness on the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
