Weapons in Large Numbers Continue to Be Surrendered to Security Forces

Feb 26, 2025 : As a step toward inviting peace and heeding Manipur’s Governor’s call, a large number of illegally held weapons by civilians continue to be deposited in Kakching district, Manipur, as more individuals have responded to the Governor’s seven-day deadline issued on February 20.

The Kakching district police held a series of meetings with civil society organizations (CSOs) and ‘Meira Paibi’ to spread awareness about the initiative.

As a result of these efforts, a significant number of arms, ammunition, grenades, and other equipment were voluntarily handed over to various police stations, commando units, and outposts across the district.

The surrendered items were displayed at the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Kakching.

The surrendered cache includes a total of 39 firearms, including SLR rifles, .303 rifles, carbines, and various locally made weapons.

Additionally, 13 hand grenades, several magazines for automatic weapons, live ammunition, and tactical gear such as bulletproof vests, helmets, and communication devices were also handed over.

Police officials have not disclosed the identities of those who surrendered the weapons, citing security concerns. Authorities have reiterated their appeal for further voluntary surrender of illegal arms, emphasizing the importance of restoring peace and security in the region.
