A massive explosion and fire at Shahid Rajaee port in southern Iran today left more than 400 people injured. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the area as emergency teams rushed to contain the situation.
The blast occurred when several containers stored at the dock exploded, causing widespread damage. Authorities reported that four rapid response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to tackle the fire and assist the injured.
Officials indicated that negligence in the storage of flammable materials may have led to the incident. Safety inspections had reportedly been conducted at the site earlier, during which warnings were issued.
Rescue teams continued efforts to evacuate the area and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities. Shahid Rajaee port, located about 1,000 kilometres south of Tehran and near the Strait of Hormuz, is Iran’s largest and most advanced container port.
