Thousands gathered in Mayang Imphal Bengoon to protest against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act 2025, organized by the Joint Coordinating Body of Mayai Lambi, including Wabagai Kendra. Started from Shakti Khongnang, the rally which concluded at Bengoon Bazar saw fervent opposition to the Act, which has stirred controversy within the Muslim community.
Protesters expressed concerns over amendments that they believe undermine the sanctity of Waqf properties, considered as dedicated to Allah under Islamic law. Placards condemning the BJP government, including slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, were prominently displayed. Speaking to the media, a protestor, Mufti Ajimuddin highlighted grievances, stating that the Act fails to uphold the rights of Muslims in managing Waqf properties. He emphasized that the amendments disregard Islamic principles and infringe upon the religious freedoms of the Muslim community in India
