Two Kuki groups, Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) and Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF), have asked all Kuki inhabitants to mark a silent observation on May 3, the day the Manipur ethnic conflict began.
In a joint statement to the media, the two bodies, KSO and ZSF, stated that the second anniversary must be observed in such a way that all educational institutions must remain closed. All business and other establishments must remain closed as well.
The observation will be marked at two places: a mass prayer at the Martyrs’ Cemetery and a public gathering at the Wall of Remembrance (WoR). “We would like to inform the general public to refrain from all normal activities and encourage as many as possible to participate,” the statement said.
“We further direct all homeowners to hoist black flags at their respective houses as a mark of respect for our lost ones,” it added.
