MCPCR Calls for Urgent Action Following the Killing of Minor in Imphal

Feb. 18, 2025 : In response to the shocking murder of 15-year-old Master Laishram Malemnganba alias Thoinao, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has called upon the concerned authorities to take immediate and necessary actions to ensure justice and provide relief to the grieving family.

During their visit to the victim’s home, the MCPCR team, led by its Chairperson, was deeply moved by the family’s distressing situation.

The household, already struggling with severe financial hardship following the death of the father some months ago, is now further devastated by the brutal killing of their young son.

Given the dire circumstances, the Commission has strongly recommended that the police expedite their investigation to identify and bring the culprits to justice without delay.

The Commission has also urged the government to provide ex-gratia compensation to the family at the earliest to help them cope with their financial crisis.

Additionally, considering the mother of the deceased is a widow with no stable source of income, the authorities have been advised to extend social security benefits such as Old Age Pension or Widow Pension to support her.

Recognizing the family’s economic struggles, MCPCR has further recommended that they be provided with subsidized rations under the Public Distribution System to ensure their basic sustenance.

Moreover, the Commission has emphasized the importance of securing the future of the victim’s youngest sister, who is currently studying in Class VI. To prevent any disruption to her education, they have appealed for immediate arrangements for educational sponsorship to support her schooling.

The MCPCR has directed these recommendations to the Commissioner and Director of Social Welfare, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, the Director of CAF & PD, and the Superintendent of Police, urging them to act swiftly in providing justice and relief to the grieving family.
