18 more suspected; authorities launch rapid response amid immunisation gaps
A measles outbreak was reported in Manipur’s Senapati district on Friday (August 1, 2025), with 11 people testing positive, official sources said. The infections have been traced to multiple localities, including Council River Colony, Phyamai Vabuh, TNK Gate, Yapao Colony, DV School, Road to Emesiiphro, and Mt. Everest areas.
Health teams are monitoring 18 more individuals who have shown similar symptoms, with their test results awaited. According to sources, 10 of the confirmed patients had not received a single dose of the measles vaccine. A rapid survey of the affected areas has exposed significant immunisation gaps.
In response, the district administration has convened a multi‑stakeholder meeting to formulate an urgent containment strategy and address vaccine hesitancy, which sources said has been a major factor behind the outbreak.
