MEELAL Leader Ingocha Meetei has called upon all communities living in Manipur to embrace and learn Meitei Mayek, highlighting its importance as a cultural bridge and a unifying script for the state.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the 22nd Foundation Day of the Meetei Erol Eyek Loinashillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) and the 19th Prize Distribution Ceremony of the Students’ Meitei Mayek Writing Competition, held at GM Hall, Imphal.
The celebration, which also marked nearly two decades of MEELAL’s sustained efforts in promoting the indigenous script, was graced by MLA Kh Ibomcha, Imphal West Zilla Parishad Chairperson Laishram Boby as Guest of Honour, and GP Women’s College Manipuri Department Head Dr. Waikhom Romesh, along with HERICOUN President Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman as dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Ingocha stressed that the script, though rooted in the Meitei community, belongs to everyone residing in the state and should be learned and preserved by all communities.
He appealed to the people to extend their support to such movements, as language and script remain vital in binding communities together amidst contemporary challenges.
The event also witnessed the distribution of prizes to winners of the Students’ Meitei Mayek Writing Competition, recognising their skills and dedication to mastering the script.
