Mega Blood Donation Camp Organised on Birth Anniversary

Thoubal, December 27 : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of S. Nilam Chanu, a resident and life member of the Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal District Branch, a mega blood donation camp was organised on Saturday at the Youth Voluntary Association (YVA) building, Wangjing SK Leikai, Thoubal district.

The blood donation camp was organised jointly by the Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal District Branch, in collaboration with YVA Wangjing and the Blood Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), under the sponsorship of the State Blood Transfusion Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman of the Managing Committee, Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal District Branch, Soibam Mangijao, stated that donating blood is a life-saving act that can save many lives. He appealed to all eligible persons to come forward voluntarily to donate blood and contribute selflessly to the welfare of society. He further said that blood banks in the state are currently unable to meet the growing demand for blood, and therefore collective efforts from the public are essential to ensure the availability of blood for those in need.

He also explained the medical screening process conducted before blood donation, stating that vital organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, and liver are thoroughly checked. An eligible blood donor must undergo haemoglobin level testing, and only those with normal levels are allowed to donate blood. Persons suffering from infections are not permitted to donate blood, he added.

Altogether, 35 people voluntarily donated blood during the camp.
