Meghalaya CM Conrad Reacts to Former CM Biren’s Attack

March 31, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has sharply reacted to former CM N Biren Singh and expressed disappointment over the mention of his late father, P.A. Sangma, in the controversy, stating that the late politician never advocated for smaller states in the Northeast region.

“It’s unfortunate that @NBirenSingh ji has dragged the name of (L) Shri P.A. Sangma ji,” Conrad Sangma stated in a social media post on Monday. “Sangma ji has always fought for the people of the North East, was a strong advocate for different issues and rights of the people of the North East.”

In a direct response to former Manipur CM, the Meghalaya Chief Minister posted on X, stating that everyone’s efforts should be directed toward the restoration of peace and harmony in Manipur rather than indulging in political posturing.

Biren also questioned Conrad Sangma’s awareness of Manipur’s security initiatives and referenced the late P.A. Sangma’s advocacy for dividing the Northeast along ethnic lines, which the former Manipur CM called “a dangerous idea.”

Conrad Sangma also wrote “an appeal to everyone to work for the betterment of the people of Manipur,” adding, “This is what (L) P.A. Sangma ji would have wanted.”
