Meghalaya MLA A.L. Hek’s recent visit to Manipur has highlighted renewed regional efforts to promote peace and dialogue, as the North East Integration Rally (NEIR) strengthens its call for calm and reconciliation amid the state’s prolonged unrest.
During his visit, Hek met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, where discussions centred on the prevailing situation in the state and the urgent need to restore peace and normalcy.
The interaction highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and collective responsibility in addressing the challenges facing Manipur.
NEIR, which has emerged as a platform advocating dialogue-driven solutions and regional unity in the Northeast, has been actively engaging stakeholders on the need to prioritise harmony over confrontation. The initiative’s meetings have focused on building trust among communities through serious and sustained discussions.
The Governor has repeatedly emphasised calm, unity, and constructive engagement, principles that closely align with NEIR’s approach to peace-building through inclusive dialogue.
Biswadeep Gupta, who has played a key role in conceptualising and strengthening NEIR’s framework, has continued to stress community participation, regional integration, and non-violent engagement as essential steps toward reconciliation.
NEIR has brought together social workers, community elders, youth representatives, civil society members, and lawmakers, providing a platform for open conversations around loss, mistrust, and fear, while encouraging hope for coexistence.
Through continued outreach, public appeals, and follow-up interactions, NEIR has called for an immediate end to violence in Manipur, urging all stakeholders to prioritise the protection of lives and respect for all communities. The appeal, organisers said, remains humanitarian in nature, placing peace above political or ideological differences.
While the path to lasting peace remains complex, NEIR’s sustained engagement reflects an ongoing effort to keep dialogue alive and reinforce regional solidarity during a period of deep division.
