Imphal: Jan 22 : The Meira Paibi Lup of Sabungkhok Khunjao Khongnang Makhong in the Lamlai Assembly Constituency staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday, condemning an alleged case of police misconduct during a commando operation in Thoubal District.

They demanded accountability for the incident, calling for immediate action against those involved.
Key demands voiced by the protesters included the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and a halt to efforts aimed at arresting village defenders, who are seen as crucial to maintaining local security.
Addressing the crowd, members of the Sabungkhok Khunjao Meira Paibi Lup highlighted the recurring nature of such incidents and urged the government to review police procedures to ensure the protection of civilians’ rights and dignity.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesters reiterated their call for the revocation of AFSPA and an end to the targeting of village defenders.
