April 1, 2026 (IMP): Calls for justice continue in valley districts of Manipur against the Tronglaobi bomb attack that killed two sleeping children. Meira Paibis (womenfolk) from various localities of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda in Imphal West district staged a sit-in protest on Saturday, expressing profound grief and strongly condemning the killing of two minors on April 7.
Similar protests were also held in Imphal East at Kongba Road before curfew, and at Singjamei (Wangma Kshetri Leikai) and Singjamei Thongkhong. The protest was organised by the South East Youth Organisation (S.E.Y.O), with participation from local Meira Paibis, residents, and inmates from Akampat.
The protesters raised serious concerns over the worsening law and order situation, particularly highlighting the vulnerability of residents living in fringe areas. One of the Meira Paibis remarked, “Enough is enough. People living in buffer zones are constantly under threat. We cannot continue to live in such dangerous conditions. There is only one government we can appeal to, and it must act immediately.”
Demonstrators also raised slogans demanding accountability, including calls for the resignation of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. Addressing the gathering, one of the Meira Paibis highlighted the ongoing hardships faced by the people, stating that, in addition to the killing of a minor, incidents of rape and murder have further aggravated the situation. She expressed concern that the prevailing condition in Manipur reflects a serious breakdown of governance.
“This is a message from all mothers to the State Government — immediate and decisive action is required,” she stated.
The protests at both locations underscore growing public anger and collective grief, with citizens urging the authorities to take urgent steps to restore safety and normalcy in the state.
