Meitei Alliance Backs Thadou Inpi’s Peace Stand, Push for NRC Update, SoO Abrogation, Drug-Free Manipur

The Meitei Alliance has welcomed the recent ‘Road to Peace’ meeting between Manipur’s major civil society organisations and the Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), hailing it as a landmark step toward unity, justice, and lasting peace in the state.

In its statement, the Alliance noted that TIM’s position on key issues including maintaining the unity and integrity of Manipur, updating the NRC to safeguard the rights of genuine citizens, abrogating the SoO agreements with KNO and UPF, removing the All Kuki Tribes (AKT) from the Scheduled Tribe list, eradicating the drug menace, and rehabilitating IDPs to their original homes, deserved broad public support.

The Alliance lauded the participation of organisations such as COCOMI, AMUCO, FOCS, Arambai Tengol, Ima groups, and student bodies in the dialogue with TIM, stating that the meeting had reaffirmed Manipur’s enduring tradition of pluralism, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.

It described the event as a “meaningful model” for inclusive dialogue and rule of law, urging all communities, especially smaller ethnic groups, to unite behind such initiatives.

According to the Alliance, the collective effort demonstrated that unity was possible even in difficult times and could form the basis for future peace-building measures in Manipur.
