Strengthening the cultural bond between Manipur and Myanmar, the Meitei community in Mandalay has come forward to safeguard its heritage following the recent earthquake.
On July 27, residents of Tadale Village in Amarapura Township held a neighborhood meeting and resolved to form the Sri Jagannath Temple Comprehensive Repair Committee.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Manipura Metta Development Association (MMDA), headquartered in Chan Aye Thar San Township, Mandalay, and was joined by Meitei Bamon representatives from various locations.
The committee brings together both elders and youths, chosen for their philanthropic spirit and commitment to ensuring that the temple restoration is carried out successfully. A clear structure with systematic rules and defined responsibilities has been laid down, reflecting a sense of organization and accountability.
To guarantee financial transparency, professional accountants are included in the committee, and a joint bank account has already been opened under the name of Kanbawza Bank Ltd (AMRA) with the account number 07751299930431201.
The MMDA and the temple committee have appealed to both international and local supporters for donations, while assuring that detailed updates of contributions and repair progress will be shared regularly on social media.
The leadership of the new body rests with U Myo Myint, also known as Purna Chandra, who serves as President, while U Aung Myint takes charge as Vice President, and U Soe Thein Tin, also known as Braja Gopal Sharma, serves as General Secretary.
Supporting them are U Win Myint, known as Chandra Bordok, and U Tin Win Han, known as Nanda Babu, who have been entrusted as Assistant General Secretaries.
The finance section is jointly managed by U Zaw Lin Oo, Daw Aye Aye Thin, and U Moe Kyaw Thu, while publicity is handled by Mr. Si Thu Soe.
