With no less than erstwhile form of worship but without much fanfare this year, the Meitei household in Manipur has all geared up extensively to perform the traditional worship of ‘Ema Emoinu Eratpa’, — a Goddess believed to be giver of wealth, prosperity, plentiful household asset.
The day is observed annually on the 12th day of Wakching month (during January), according to Manipuri lunar calendar and the rituals includes invocation to the goddess ‘Emoinu’ and offering seasonal fresh fruits, vegetable and fish.
In the view of event, the state fisheries department has also organized a fish fair at Hatta Kanjeibung, near Place Compound in Imphal, with a target to produced different variety of fish not less than 80-thousand kg, according to Fisheries Minister Heikham Dingo.
According to Fisheries Minister Heikham Dingo, rarely available fish like Meitie Sarang (Wallago attu), Nung-nga ( Systomas calvatus) will also be made available for public. And with the concerted effort of the fisheries department and fish farmer, the state has able to reduce annual spent on fish-import from Rs 400 Crore to 200 Crore with local production.
