Feb. 6, 2025: As the initiatives of the central government became more evident for the resettlement of Molhom (Kuki) Village, which is located near the fringe of Imphal East’s Itham Moirangpurel and Tumukhong areas of the Andro Assembly Constituency, the people of the twin villages, in a large meeting, passed a resolution to stand against such an effort, alleging it to be an unfair step that sidelines the Meitei community.
Earlier, there were instances where the NSCN (IM) reportedly claimed Molhom Village as the main base of Kuki militants, stating that “the village only housed Kuki militants, numbering around 200, and was used as their headquarters.” The villagers reiterated the same, informing that they had previously witnessed Kuki militants’ hostility from the area. Now, with the government attempting resettlement by placing a BSF Camp, they believe the area still poses a threat of attacks from the hilltop.
During the consultative meeting, the Advisor of the Nongpok Ngakpa Lup (NNL), Dewal Takhellambam, stated that many families and villages in the Tumukhong area had been deserted due to the ongoing conflict. However, the central government has turned a blind eye to their plight and has yet to address the losses suffered by the people and their villages.
The villagers also called on the government to act impartially in its resettlement initiatives.
