Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured the silver medal in the women’s 48kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships 2025, held in Forde, Norway. She registered a total lift of 199kg, with 84kg in the snatch and 115kg in the clean and jerk, marking her first World Championship medal since 2022.
North Korea’s Ri Song Gum won the gold with a total of 213kg, setting a new world record, while Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen claimed the bronze with 198kg.
Chanu had earlier won gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in August 2025 and has been making a steady return after recovering from injuries in the past years. Her performance at Forde contributed to India’s medal tally at the World Championships, highlighting the country’s presence in international weightlifting competitions.
