Mizoram CM Destroys Drugs Worth Rs 4.29 Crore While AR Seizes No. 4 Worth Rs. 88.20 Lakh

In a move against the rising drug menace, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today led from the front at a Drug Disposal Programme held at the Central YMA Hall in Aizawl, where narcotics worth an estimated Rs. 4.29 crore were destroyed.

Organised by the Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), the event marked the disposal of drugs seized between March 15 and June 2025.

Taking part in the symbolic disposal, Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasised the importance of a “compassionate and community-driven approach” to tackling drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

He called upon the people of Mizoram to unite in the war against narcotics, stressing the need for both enforcement and rehabilitation.

The seized contraband included 861 units of Heroin (No. 4); 1,498 TicTac tablets; 10 kg of Methamphetamine; 25,383 pharmaceutical tablets; 56 kg of Ganja; 2,805 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup and a large quantity of illicit liquor.

The total estimated value of the destroyed substances stood at Rs. 4.29 crore.

Since March 15, CADS apprehended 809 individuals in connection with drug cases. Among them, 440 were given counselling, 37 were admitted to rehabilitation centres, 48 handed over to the Excise Department, and 4 transferred to the Police for further action.

Meanwhile, in a parallel development, Assam Rifles recovered 117.60 grams of Heroin No. 4 worth Rs. 88.20 lakh in Lunglei district, Mizoram. Three individuals were apprehended and handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Lunglei, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
