Feb 22, 2025 : Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, inaugurated the Unity Bridge, a significant infrastructure project linking Mizoram and Manipur. The bridge was named in recognition of its role in enhancing connectivity between the two states.
During his speech, CM Lalduhoma noted that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) had played a crucial role in the construction of the road connecting Seling to Tipaimukh.
The first Bailey Bridge was installed by the BRO in the area, although it had been originally constructed in 1990. However, due to the inadequate condition of the bridge and surrounding infrastructure, Mizoram Public Works Department (PWD) took the initiative in 1992 to enhance the abutment, and the bridge was once again refurbished. Despite this, the bridge remained in poor condition, with repairs being necessary until 1997.
The region, located between Mizoram and Manipur, has long been a vital connection for interstate traffic, including buses. In 1999, an abutment was constructed to extend the bridge to a six-meter length. A full upgrade of the road and the bridge had been overdue for some time, and as a result, the road from Seling to Tipaimukh now forms part of the National Highway system.
