Mizoram launches ‘Love Brigade 2.0’ to promote condom use: ‘Just Use It’

FEB 14, 2026 (AIZAWL): Advocating and promoting protected sex through the correct use of condoms to prevent HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the Mizoram Health Minister launched the ‘Love Brigade 2.0’ campaign with the theme ‘Just Use It’ on the occasion of International Condom Day in Aizawl. The programme was organised by the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with AIDS Healthcare Foundation India Cares (AHF) India Cares, India.

Unprotected sex remains the primary route of HIV transmission in Mizoram, accounting for 70 percent of all cases, and the state’s HIV prevalence rate of 2.74 percent far exceeds the national average of 0.2 percent, which is a shame for Mizo society, the Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii noted during the event.

The initiative introduces a unique distribution model in which two-wheeler taxi riders wear condom jackets, allowing passengers and the public to access free condoms discreetly and easily.

V. Sam Prasad, Country Program Director for AHF India Cares, reinforced the Minister’s message, stating that HIV spreads wherever preventive measures are ignored. He said the campaign ensures that “no one has to have sex without a condom because they couldn’t find one.”
