Mizoram Prepared to Prevent Rabies Spread from Manipur

In response to a recent rabies outbreak in Churachandpur district of neighbouring Manipur, the Veterinary Department of Mizoram has issued an official advisory assuring the public that there is no need to panic. The state currently has no reported rabies cases, and precautionary measures are already underway to prevent the disease from spreading into Mizoram.

As part of its preparedness strategy, the government has announced a mass vaccination drive targeting five villages along the Manipur border — Ngopa, NE Khawdungsei, Daiso, Khawkawn, and Khawlian. Veterinary officials will oversee the campaign to ensure all domestic animals, especially dogs, are vaccinated.

The Deputy Commissioners of Saitual and Aizawl districts have also issued orders to ban the import of dogs from outside the state. Dog owners have been instructed to vaccinate their pets promptly, and the free movement of dogs in public areas has been strictly prohibited.

Veterinary officers posted in the border areas have been directed to maintain constant surveillance and conduct field vigilance to detect any early signs of the virus.

The Veterinary Department also urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and follow all health advisories to safeguard the state from any potential rabies threat.
