March 14, 2025 : A sudden landslide in a side drain construction area in Belthlei village, Lunglei District, claimed two lives.
According to reports, the victims were working on a side drain construction project when the landslide occurred, burying them under the debris. Three people were caught in the landslide, but only one survived with injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Vanmawia (29), son of Lallawma, and Zothanmawia (14), son of K Chahha. Another worker engaged in the area was also stuck in the debris but luckily survived. The injured individual is currently receiving medical treatment.
