JAN 13, 2026 (TBL): The much-needed community hall at Pechi under Heirok Assembly Constituency, which was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 38 lakh from the MLA Local Area Development Fund (2022–23), was formally inaugurated and handed over to the public on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by Heirok AC MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam as the chief guest. Speaking at the inaugural, the MLA said the community hall inaugurated for public use today has been made possible with the blessings of the Almighty. He said that as a public representative elected by the people, it is his duty to serve them sincerely, adding, “Fulfilling public needs is my duty.”
He further remarked that work and results go hand in hand. Good deeds bring good results, while bad deeds lead to bad outcomes.
The MLA said that he works wholeheartedly for the welfare of all people as a representative chosen by the public with the blessings of God.
Clarifying his views, Dr Radheshyam stated that worship and religion are different. One may follow any religion of one’s choice, but true worship, he said, lies in performing one’s duty. It is the duty of the sun to shine, and it is his worship. Likewise, praying for the well-being of others every day, helping people in need, and living with love and compassion is true worship. He added that water becomes meaningful only when it serves the purpose of overcoming thirst.
He further said that the Almighty has entrusted everyone with responsibilities and that all human beings share the same physical form. If people live with mutual love and respect, he said, it would lead to a better society and a more progressive Assembly Constituency.
Dr Radheshyam reiterated that true worship and duty cannot be separated and that the work he carries out daily is his duty. Referring to small tasks often neglected due to lack of resources, he said that even minor works are important, as they contribute to overall development. He appealed to the people to cooperate with him so that he may continue to work for their welfare.
He also requested the public not to misunderstand or spread unverified rumours, stating that as a public servant, he remains accountable to the people. He concluded by expressing hope that the New Year would usher in unity, peace and progress for all, without conflict or division, and that Manipur would move forward on the path of harmony.
During the programme, members of the Pechi PYC Club submitted a memorandum to the MLA highlighting various developmental needs of the area. The MLA assured them that feasible works would be taken up in due course.
The inauguration event was attended by a large number of local residents, including elders from Pechi village and neighbouring areas.
