MLA Ranjit Misled People: BJP Sugnu Mandal

Regarding the road construction work that had been left incomplete for many years on the stretch from Hiyanglam-Wabagai Lamkhai Market to Sugnu in Kakching district, which falls under Sugnu AC, BJP Sugnu Mandal President M. Nabachandra issued a statement clarifying a recent remark made by MLA K. Ranjit.

He said that the MLA of Sugnu AC, K. Ranjit, had claimed that the present PR government had sanctioned ₹45 crore for the Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu road construction, but this statement is misleading to the people.

Nabachandra explained that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting financial constraints faced by the state, the road, which had been pending for a long time, was finally taken up for construction during the BJP-led government under Chief Minister N. Biren. The project was proposed under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, which was meant to fund such pending projects.

However, when President’s Rule was imposed, K. Ranjit took undue credit by announcing that ₹45 crore had been sanctioned for the road through his efforts.

In reality, the ₹45 crore mentioned was not a fresh sanction through his initiative but part of the proposals already approved earlier under the SASCI scheme. Out of this, the actual fund released at present is around ₹22 crore, which MLA K. Ranjit is fully aware of.

Nabachandra further asserted that in such a sensitive situation, trying to mislead the public and manipulate voters for the sake of Congress party politics is highly irresponsible. He emphasized that in today’s critical time, politics should not be the priority. Instead, a responsible MLA should work sincerely on essential development works such as repairing broken bridges, addressing deficiencies in education, and solving issues in the healthcare sector.

He also pointed out that due to the negligence and substandard work of some contractors under the MLA’s watch, several roads that were claimed to be completed have already been damaged within a year, clearly showing poor quality.
