March 24, 2025 : After the country’s Apex Court directed the government to complete the delimitation process, including Manipur, within three months, BJP MLA RK Imo Singh of Sagolband AC today dashed off a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, highlighting several crucial points that need to be addressed before the exercise to ensure fair representation.
In the letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the MLA calls for the completion of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), identification and removal of illegal immigrants and bogus voters, elimination of fake Aadhaar cards for linkages with EPIC, and constitutional protection for indigenous people in the 40 Valley Seats.
The MLA asked for the completion of the NRC process to identify genuine citizens of India and the state so that representation within the democratic structure is reserved solely for bonafide citizens. He also wrote that the Central Government’s effort to detect and identify illegal immigrants is greatly appreciated and urged completion at the earliest to ensure a more robust voter base in Manipur. He asked for scrutiny to eliminate any discrepancies caused by the inclusion of bogus or fake voters.
The MLA also highlighted the issue of figuring out 65,000 fake Aadhaar cards during the ECI drive, which was uncovered during CM N. Biren Singh’s leadership.
Regarding constitutional protection for indigenous people in the 40 Valley Seats, he stated that it is crucial to provide constitutional protection for these 40 seats, ensuring that they are reserved for the indigenous people of the valley. Notably, various seats are already reserved for the hill areas. He said the 40 seats are essential for preventing demographic imbalance and preserving the socio-cultural identity of the region.
