Heirok Assembly Constituency MLA Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam visited the Indo–Myanmar border area in Ukhrul district on Monday as part of his ongoing outreach programme, inspecting Border Pillar No. 127 located near Poi village.
According to a post on his official Facebook page, the MLA shared a video showing his visit to the site, where he is seen examining the surroundings and interacting with local youths. He mentioned that he trekked about three kilometres on foot from Poi village to reach the border, noting that the approach road remains in poor condition.
Describing the experience as “memorable,” Radheshyam expressed his admiration for the natural beauty of the area, comparing it favourably with scenic destinations he has visited across 27 countries, including Switzerland, Hungary, Rome, and the UK. He said the region could be developed into a major eco-tourism hub and urged young people to look beyond boundaries, explore opportunities, and contribute to Manipur’s growth.
Clarifying misconceptions, the former Education Minister confirmed that Border Pillar No. 127 “remains firmly in place” and “has not been broken.” He also highlighted that improved movement between the hill and valley regions reflects growing connectivity and cooperation across the state.
Radheshyam encouraged local youth and community organisations to work collectively to promote and protect the state’s unique landscapes and cultural richness for future generations.
