Monsang Tribe Files FIR After Brutal Attack on Student Leaders Near Bijoypur

The Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union) has strongly condemned the alleged life attempt on four Monsang student leaders, who were reportedly attacked by a group of six to seven unidentified men near Bijoypur, between Kakching Lamkhai and Pallel, last night.

According to the Union, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when the student leaders — Gedion Kiirii, President of STS Japhou Village; Wanglar Phillip, General Secretary of STS Japhou Village; Ts. Hollyson of Liwa Khullen; and Th. Moni of Liwa Khullen — were returning home to Chandel from Kakching Lamkhai.

The group had stopped along the roadside for a nature call when the unidentified assailants riding an Activa and an e-auto reportedly approached them and launched an unprovoked attack.

Two of the leaders, Gedion Kiirii and Ts. Hollyson, were said to have sustained serious injuries. Kiirii reportedly suffered a deep forehead wound, while Hollyson was injured on the face.

The attackers fled towards Pallel immediately after the assault, leaving the victims injured at the spot. The students managed to reach Komlathabi PHC for first aid around 10 p.m.

The Monsang Tribe Union denounced the assault as a “brutal act and attempt on life” and urged the state authorities and law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprits at the earliest, stating that the community would launch further agitation if justice is delayed.

In connection with the incident, an FIR has reportedly been submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of Kakching Police Station. The complaint calls on the police to identify and apprehend the unknown attackers and to ensure justice in accordance with Monsang Naga customary law.
