On the second day of his visit to Kamjong District, Manipur, the Minister of State (MoS) for Defence, Sanjay Seth, held a significant conference with civil society organizations (CSOs) of the district. During the meeting, the MoS received memorandums from five Tangkhul Naga CSOs and three Kuki CSOs, addressing various local concerns and development needs.
Earlier, the MoS, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Rangnamai Rang Peter, Superintendent of Police Ningshem Vashum, Brigadier SM Sandeep Singh of Somsai Sector, and Colonel Sumit Acharya, Commanding Officer of 8th Assam Rifles, inspected the Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar (IMB-102). He also visited key infrastructure sites including the newly constructed Kamjong Higher Secondary School, the functional District Hospital, and the under-construction District Mini Secretariat.
The MoS had also chaired a meeting with District Level Officers (DLOs) a day before, during which twenty-six departments presented status reports and shared the challenges they face. Notable appreciation was given to the One-Stop Centre (OSC) for its contributions to the district, and the MoS urged the ICDS cell to reach more beneficiaries.
Encouraging environmental conservation, the MoS inspired the Forest Department to increase tree plantation efforts, stressing that forest lands must be preserved to protect biodiversity and natural resources. He acknowledged the district’s impressive forest revenue contribution to the state.
Addressing welfare schemes, he appreciated the progress of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), which has covered 67.23% of Kamjong’s 45,616 population, and encouraged the CAF&PD to work towards an 87% coverage.
Concerning connectivity issues in remote areas, the District Administration assured efforts to improve network coverage in collaboration with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
The conference concluded with a proposal by the District Administration for the development of a model town at K Ashang Khullen Aze (KAKA), envisioned to boost trade and commerce in the border areas.
