Motor Pump of Water Supply Scheme Vandalised, Residents Attack Two Houses

Thoubal, October 22:

Unidentified miscreants reportedly vandalised the electric motor and fuse of a water supply scheme installed by the PHED Department at Pechi village under Yairipok Police Station, Thoubal District, on Sunday night. Following the act, the residents of Pechi Khul, in retaliation, attacked the houses of two individuals — identified as suspected accused and their families — causing extensive damage.

According to reports, the houses of the two individuals, identified as Keisam Brojen and Yumnam Mukta, were attacked and vandalised by angry villagers. Brojen was originally from Pechi village but is presently residing at Yairipok Bamol Leikai near the canal, while Yumnam Mukta is a resident of Pechi village.

The incident occurred after villagers discovered the destruction of the motor pump and electrical components of the Jal Jeevan Mission-funded water supply scheme, which had been set to provide drinking water to the locality.

The villagers expressed that the scheme was crucial for their daily water supply and alleged that the motor pump and electric fuse were deliberately damaged by Brojen and Mukta. In anger, the villagers reportedly marched to the houses of the alleged individuals and vandalised them. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the site and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Keisam Brojen stated that he had been wrongly accused and alleged that the villagers had unjustly targeted his family, causing severe property damage.

Brojen further explained that the water supply land was under dispute and that the matter was already pending in court. He added that the court had issued an injunction order restraining any activity at the disputed site. He claimed that some unidentified individuals had poured acid into the water supply motor pump at the powerhouse, located on the contested land, and that he was being falsely blamed without proper evidence.

He further reported that following the mob attack, valuables including a TV, laptop, desktop computer, and other household items worth around ₹15 lakh were looted, while ₹5 lakh in cash, 20 gold ornaments, and ₹20 lakh worth of gold kept in a Godrej locker were stolen. His residence at Yairipok Bamol Leikai and his family home at Pechi were also vandalised.
