Congress Lok Sabha MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam has alleged that a buffer zone is clearly enforced on the ground in Manipur, though officials have claimed its non-existence, and its existence has separated communities in a way that contradicts constitutional principles.
Addressing the media at his residence in Keisamthong, Imphal, today, the Congress MP alleged that the central government has fostered communal divides through the creation of an unofficial buffer zone in the state.
The MP was halted yesterday by some central security forces from entering Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district of Manipur, within his parliamentary constituency, and he termed the incident as a clear example of divide.
“What does it say when a sitting MP cannot access part of his own constituency? This isn’t about law and order—it’s about legitimizing separation,” he said.
Bimol called for urgent national attention, warning that the normalization of such zones risks deepening communal fault lines in the state.
