MP Bimol Flags Major Irregularities in Rs. 1,202 Crore Jal Jeevan Mission Projects in Manipur

Serious questions have emerged over the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Manipur after data from the official website reportedly revealed that 3,33,539 households were shown as having functional tap water connections.

Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has alleged that large-scale discrepancies and irregularities have taken place in projects worth Rs. 1,202 crore, terming it a major scam that demands national attention.

Following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed before the Manipur High Court, which has called for a court-monitored investigation, the MP addressed the media at AICC Headquarters, New Delhi, today.

Highlighting findings from the JJM portal, he said several beneficiary lists contain non-existent names, and in many cases, tap connections claimed as functional do not exist on the ground. He cited visuals and complaints from villages where water pipelines remain incomplete or abandoned.

He further pointed out that, as Chairperson of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), he found inconsistencies across several districts and panchayats, where 7–8 local bodies reportedly received ‘functional water tap’ coverage only on paper.

As per official figures, the Jal Jeevan Mission in Manipur involved a total investment of Rs. 1,202.85 crore, with Rs. 1,078.82 crore from the Centre and Rs. 124.03 crore from the State Government.
