The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has urged citizens to uphold national unity and reaffirm democratic values while commemorating the 41st death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the 150th birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The appeal was made during a solemn remembrance programme held at Congress Bhawan, Imphal, on Friday.
Party leaders said the occasion served as a reminder of the two national icons’ enduring legacy — Indira Gandhi’s decisive leadership and sacrifice, and Sardar Patel’s monumental role in integrating the nation.
Floral tributes were offered at their portraits before the gathering took a pledge to follow their ideals of courage, unity, and service to the nation.
MPCC President Shri Keisham Meghachandra Singh led the homage, describing both leaders as pillars of India’s resilience and progress.
In his remarks, he said their contributions “continue to inspire generations to defend unity and democratic values.”
CLP Leader Okram Ibobi recalled Indira Gandhi as a symbol of strength and determination and praised Sardar Patel’s unmatched commitment to national integration.
Senior Congress leaders, office bearers, and workers from across the state took part in the programme, which was organised under the theme “Re-Dedication Day.”
