MPCC Chief reacts swift to Union Home Minister’s fresh directives for ensuring peace

March 1, 2025: The MPCC President K. Meghachandra has questioned the BJP govt in the center, why most of the high-profile cases of drug-haul have never been handed over to the independent investigation agency like CBI and such a matter shows that no serious measures were taken against drug-smugglers.

The MPCC Chief questioned the reason why the case like Lhukhosei Zou was never handed over to CBI, which the Congress has been demanding earlier. Lhukhosei Zou, former ADC chairman of Chandel, who was among the 6 arrested in a drug-related case during June of 2018, was acquitted by an order dated December 17, 2020, passed by the Special Court (ND&PS).

The reaction comes hours after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in (MHA Office) New Delhi this afternoon to stress Manipur’s issues, which were attended by Manipur Governor A.K. Bhalla, Union Home Secretary, Director, Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander of the Eastern Command, Directors General BSF, CRPF, and Assam Rifles, Security Advisor, Manipur, and senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

During the crucial meeting, the Union Home Minister directed all to make Manipur a drug-free state and to dismantle the entire network and also ensured free movement on all roads from the 8th of March.

And the MPCC Chief also said the Union Home Minister’s direction to ensure free movement is very welcome, however, asked why this step was not taken in the state and let the people suffer for more than 21 months. And regarding the border fencing, which the Union Home Minister asked to be completed at the soonest, the MPCC said during the earlier Congress rule, a total of 9.214 km had already been completed and why the BJP government has been doing nothing in the last 10 years.
