MPCC Holds Candlelight Protest Rally Alleging Voter Fraud in Multiple States

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), led by former Chief Minister and CLP Leader Okram Ibobi Singh, on Wednesday organized a candlelight protest rally in Imphal to denounce alleged voter fraud in several states. The demonstration, held as part of the All India Congress Committee’s nationwide campaign, began at Congress Bhavan on BT Road, proceeded through MG Avenue, and returned via Kangla Western Gate.

Participants, including MPCC President K. Meghachandra and other senior leaders, carried placards and shouted slogans such as “Vote Chor Gaadi Chhod” (“Vote thieves, get off the vehicle of power”).

Addressing the media, Ibobi Singh said the directive for the rally came from the AICC to echo Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of electoral manipulation by the BJP. He cited instances from the recent Karnataka and Maharashtra Assembly elections, as well as the Lok Sabha polls, alleging misuse of voter lists and practices that “destroy the democratic form of government” and “violate the Constitution of India.”

“This is not just a state-level protest, but one happening in districts and even abroad,” Singh said. “If such practices continue, the future of Indian democracy will be in jeopardy.”

The MPCC’s candlelight protest rally was part of a coordinated national action aimed at highlighting what the party calls systemic threats to the electoral process.
