MPCC Slams BJP’s Allegations on National Herald Case, Calls Charges Politically Motivated

As part of the Indian National Congress’s nationwide campaign “Congress Truths, BJP Lies,” the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) organized a press conference today at Congress Bhavan in Imphal. The campaign, running from April 21 to April 24, aims to expose what Congress terms as the “BJP’s lies” surrounding the National Herald case.

The press conference follows the Enforcement Directorate (ED) naming senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in its chargesheet, accusing them of money laundering involving Rs 988 crore. The chargesheet also includes Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, and other party associates.

Congress party’s Manipur in-charge Mathew Antony denounced the ED’s charges as politically motivated and accused the BJP of misusing investigative agencies to tarnish the image of Congress leadership ahead of the upcoming elections.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to fighting the charges in the court of law and emphasized the Congress party’s dedication to the truth. They called on the people of Manipur to see through what they described as the BJP’s attempts to malign the Congress party for political gains.

In a related development, the MPCC had previously staged a protest against the ED’s actions, labeling them as arbitrary and unjust. The protest, held in front of the Enforcement Directorate’s office at Chingmeirong, was part of a broader campaign against what the Congress termed the “arbitrary and unjust seizure” of the National Herald’s assets and the filing of chargesheets against party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
