MPCC Slams Union Budget, Claims It Fails to Address Common People’s Concerns

Feb. 1, 2025:– The first full Budget of the Narendra Modi government 3.0, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, has sparked criticism from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

The opposition party dismissed the Budget as a political move aimed at benefiting the ruling BJP-led NDA ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, set for October-November 2025.

In a sharp rebuttal, MPCC president K. Meghachandra emphasized that the Budget does not provide adequate relief or compensation for the people of Manipur, who have been enduring an ongoing crisis since May 2023. The violence and instability in the state, which has led to widespread displacement and loss of life, were largely ignored, the party claimed.

The Congress leader argued that the government’s response to the crisis was insufficient and that the Budget failed to reflect the gravity of the situation, particularly in terms of financial support and rehabilitation for the affected communities.

Moreover, the MPCC president criticized the Budget’s broader approach to taxation, accusing the government of continuing “tax terrorism” that burdens the common people instead of offering any meaningful relief.
