MPCC VP filed disqualification petition against 4 NPP MLAs before Speaker’s Tribunal

Jan. 28, 2025: In what could be described as a headache for 4 NPP MLAs in Manipur, the opposition Congress in Manipur has sought disqualification of the MLAs and filed petitions for disqualification against the MLAs before the Speaker’s Tribunal for extending support to the BJP-led government in Manipur.

The MPCC vice-president Hareshwar Goswami filed the said four different petitions before the Speaker’s Tribunal on Tuesday later in the afternoon. The 4 NPP MLAs are Mayanglambam Rameshwar of Kakching AC, Thongam Shanti Singh of Moirang AC, Irengbam Nalini Devi of Oinam AC, and Janghemlung Panmei of Tamenglong AC.

According to information received after filing the petition, the Congress said the four NPP MLAs had extended support to the BJP-led government in the state, despite NPP National President (Conrad K. Sangma) and his party (NPP) having withdrawn support to the BJP government in Manipur.

Earlier, there were reports that the NPP, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma, had on November 17 last year withdrawn support to the BJP-led government in Manipur, claiming that CM Biren Singh-led Manipur government had failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy in the state.
