MSCW Celebrates International Women’s Day with Pride and Inclusivity

Imphal, Sunday, March 8, 2026: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme “Give to Gain” at Sangai Conference Hall, Hotel Imphal, highlighting the strength, resilience and contributions of women in society.

Speaking at the programme, BJP MLA Dr. S.S. Olish of 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency said that being born a woman is a blessing and urged women to recognise their roles and responsibilities in building a harmonious family, community and state. She emphasised that a world without women is incomplete and encouraged women to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and dignity.

Referring to the present situation in Manipur, Dr. Olish appealed to women to promote goodwill, unity and mutual understanding to help bring lasting peace and harmony in the state. She added that women possess qualities such as kindness, compassion and generosity, which should be used to foster dialogue and resolve differences peacefully.

MSCW Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang said that the role of women is vital in shaping a peaceful and progressive society. Highlighting the theme “Give to Gain,” she noted that every act of help can make a difference and called for greater support to women in need.

Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director (IPR) W. Phajatombi Devi, MCS, said the celebration aimed to encourage and uplift women while recognising their invaluable contributions. She also appreciated men who support and encourage women.

Former members and leaders associated with the Commission, including K. Sobita Devi, Soibam (O) Neelima Devi, Ranjita Golmei, Lourembam Dayabati Devi, Chuongsin Koireng, and Hodam (O) Piteswori (Memi) Devi, were felicitated during the programme.

A short documentary highlighting the achievements and contributions of women in Manipur was also screened on the occasion.

The event was attended by SK Sophia Moyon, Member of MSCW, along with staff and legal advisors of the Commission and women from different communities dressed in traditional attire.
