Marking its 27th Foundation Day, the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) today criticized the State Government for its continued failure to effectively implement the Manipur Official Language Act, 1979, calling the neglect “unfortunate and a threat to the State’s linguistic identity.”
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the event held at the MSF head office in Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, MSF President Hijam Roshan expressed concern that even after more than four decades of the Act’s passage, the government has not framed or enforced a proper language policy to strengthen Ema Lon (Manipuri language).
He said such prolonged inaction reflects the government’s indifference toward preserving Manipur’s cultural and linguistic heritage. Roshan further pointed out that while the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being actively implemented elsewhere, the State Education Department has failed to align it with the local context or uphold Manipuri as the medium of learning.
The Foundation Day function was attended by Soraisam Memcha Leima, President of Porei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur; Sorokhaikhom Sanjoy, President of AMUCO; Yumkhaibam Kunharani, President of All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association; MSF advisors Ngariyanbam Milan Singh and Oinam Ashnikumar; and K.H. Serajuddin of the Pangal Students’ Organisation.
As part of the celebration, MSF, in collaboration with the RIMS Department of Transfusion Medicine, State Blood Cell, NHF, and SBTC Manipur, organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp to mark the occasion.
