MTIFC Urges Timely Relief Distribution to Storm and Landslide Victims

Tengnoupal, March 20: The Manipur Tribal Indigenous Farmers Committee (MTIFC) has appealed to the Government of Manipur to ensure proper and timely distribution of relief materials to families affected by the recent hailstorm and strong winds that struck various parts of the state on March 15.

According to reports, the severe storm caused extensive damage to houses across several districts, including Tengnoupal. In the district alone, a total of 117 houses were reportedly damaged, particularly in areas along the Myanmar border. Many families have been left vulnerable after their homes were either partially or completely destroyed.

Speaking during a press interaction held at Tuismi in Tengnoupal district, MTIFC Tengnoupal District Committee President S. Dangsha stated that the storm and strong winds severely affected 17 villages located near the Indo-Myanmar border. He further noted that, in addition to houses being damaged, some households also lost roofing materials and other essential structures.

MTIFC highlighted that the relief materials distributed so far are insufficient and of poor quality in some cases. The committee urged the authorities to provide adequate assistance, including high-quality roofing materials and essential supplies, to ensure that affected families can rebuild their homes safely. It also stressed the need for immediate support for those who have been rendered homeless due to the disaster.

Additionally, reports of landslides occurring in certain areas have further worsened the situation. However, MTIFC pointed out that many affected individuals have yet to receive any form of assistance. The committee strongly appealed to the concerned authorities to expedite relief measures and ensure that all affected families receive necessary support within the month of March.

The press meet was also attended by MTIFC Vice President K. Modun, General Secretary (Administration) K. Modun, Women’s Wing Secretary Tocha Maku, and Women’s Wing Coordinator K. Apem.
