20 March, 2025 : “A safe and inclusive environment is essential for every institution,” emphasized Meihoubam Rakesh, Director of the Human Rights Law Network, at the inauguration of Manipur Technical University’s (MTU) Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Disaster Management Cell.
The ICC, inaugurated by MTU Registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam (MCS), is led by Dr. Moirangthem Roshini as the Presiding Officer. The committee includes faculty members, staff, student representatives, and an external NGO member, Nonibala Narengbam, Director of the Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation. To mark the occasion, an awareness session on the legal aspects of preventing sexual harassment was conducted, where Prof. Robita Sorokhaibam from Manipur University stressed the importance of such committees in educational institutions.
In the second session, MTU launched its Disaster Management Cell to promote disaster preparedness, risk reduction education, and research. Coordinated by Assistant Professor Kosygin Leishangthem, the cell consists of members from various departments and aims to train not just the university community but also local communities. Given Manipur’s vulnerability to natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and landslides, the initiative will focus on strengthening resilience and preparedness efforts.
