In a gesture of goodwill, the Meitei Leepun has extended a warm welcome to the proposed visit of Thuingaleng Muivah, the Naga leader, to his ancestral village in Manipur — his first return in over five decades.
Describing the Centre’s decision to allow Muivah’s homecoming as “wise and compassionate,” Meitei Leepun said it marks a moment of deep emotional and historical significance for the people of Manipur. The organization revealed that it has been pursuing this cause through various channels since 2015.
Hailing Muivah as a “visionary leader who stood firm for the land and its people,” Meitei Leepun noted that his life’s journey symbolizes conviction, identity, and the awakening of indigenous consciousness across communities.
Calling for the visit to become a turning point for reconciliation, Meitei Leepun urged that the occasion be used to “strengthen the bond of brotherhood between the Nagas and Meiteis,” and to build “trust, understanding, and unity” for a peaceful Manipur.
“The beauty of Manipur lies in its diversity,” the statement read, adding, “Every son of the soil deserves a heartfelt welcome and gratitude. Let every community stand together for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Manipur.”
