Naga Areas to Be Shut Down for 3 Days to Mourn Death in Deadly Ambush in Ukhrul

April 19, 2026 (UKHL): Expressing collective condemnation against a deadly ambush that killed two Naga civilians by armed assailants on April 18 along NH-202, the Naga apex bodies have resolved to call for a three-day total shutdown in Naga-inhabited areas from midnight of April 20 to midnight of April 23 to mourn the deaths of the two civilians.

A ‘candlelight vigil’ will also be observed from 6:30 PM onwards at all Naga district headquarters and in Imphal to honour the departed souls and reaffirm commitment to peace with dignity. During the three days of mourning, the Nagas in the state of Manipur shall suspend all social and economic ties with the Kukis, in accordance with Naga customary practice.

The decision was taken at a joint emergency meeting convened by the United Naga Council with ANSAM, NWU, and district apex bodies on April 19, 2026, at the UNC office in Tahamzam, condemning the outrageous aggression and cold-blooded killing of Naga civilians. The United Naga Council has appealed to all Naga citizens, organisations, and institutions to fully cooperate in observing the resolutions.
