The vanguard of the Naga people — UNC, ANSAM & NWU — has expressed condemnation and states they are devastated by the barbaric act of Kukis, committing an unwarranted attack on the Naga villagers of Konshakhul near Leimakhong Army Cantonment on April 5, 2025, at around 11:30 AM, resulting in severe injuries and destruction of properties belonging to the Liangmai Naga of Konshakhul village.
It is said that hundreds of assailants from Leilon Kukis unleashed a premeditated attack upon the peaceful Liangmai Naga villagers, taking the law into their hands and leaving 13 persons severely wounded, including Aimson Abonmai, Chief of Konshakhul, Adam Dirinamai, Village Chairman, and Wilingson Abonmai, Pastor, Konsaram Baptist Church. Mr. Aimson Abonmai and Adam are undergoing treatment at RIMS, Imphal. As per Naga customary law, attacking and assaulting the chief/headman and village authority is indeed one of the highest forms of crime and aggression against the village and is a matter of great concern.
The joint apex bodies of Nagas, in no uncertain terms, condemn such heinous crime perpetrated upon the Nagas and are shocked to learn of such organized crime carried out by hundreds during the public curfew promulgated by the state authority, under the watch of security forces from both central and state. It raises a serious question over the government authorities and the dubious bonhomie of central security forces and the Kukis.
We also take strong exception to the hasty and outrageous statement of the so-called World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council regarding the incident, resorting to justify the act of crime committed by their brethren towards the Nagas based on unfounded claims and distorted documents instead of trying to contain the situation and solve the matter amicably. It only turns out that the crime was carried out clinically and corroborated by the Kuki-Zo at large to meet their selfish ends.
The Naga people also condemn the treacherous and savage actions carried out by the Kuki volunteers from Valpabung village, vandalizing and committing arson at Kazanga, a village belonging to the Maram Naga tribe on April 3, 2025.
Such outrageous acts are nothing less than land arrogation in the guise of dispute and are highly unacceptable. Moreover, the Naga people will not remain as mute spectators unless sanity and good sense prevail.
