At least 73 native Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), who were earlier allotted their internship at Churachandpur Medical College (CMC), have been left in the lurch after state authorities remained silent with no further official information on their internship.
The said 73 students have all undergone and passed the prerequisite Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examinations to obtain permanent registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) in December 2024, and they were allotted CMC after counselling.
The FMGE is a screening test conducted by the National Board of Examinations to ensure foreign-trained doctors meet the required standards. Foreign medical graduates seeking to practice in India must pass the FMGE and complete a supervised internship in India to obtain permanent registration with the NMC.
Other medical colleges in Manipur have already started their internship, and delays in the process will jeopardise their careers, said a student who wishes to remain anonymous and called on the authorities to address their concerns through the media and oversee their situation.
