NDDB to Take Over Management of Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union

Imphal, Jan. 31, 2025: The management of Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. has now been handed over to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and a tripartite MoU was signed today between the State Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Government of India, and Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh and Veterinary and A.H. Minister Shri Khashim Vashum.

According to government information, the Chairman of NDDB, Dr. Meenesh Shah, spoke on Operation Flood, which had transformed India from a milk-deficient nation into the world’s largest milk producer. He informed that India’s current milk production is over 239 million metric tons, which accounts for a 24 percent share of the world’s production. Milk production contributes 4 to 5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, he said, stressing the need for rural areas to join the mainstream economy to achieve the dream of Viksit Bharat.

He continued that the NDDB had a clear-cut focus on the Northeastern States. He maintained that the Board has no intention of engaging in business activities but would take a purely developmental role in increasing the state’s milk production.

The MoU signing program was also attended by Power Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF & PD Minister L. Susindro Meitei, MLAs Sapam Kunjakeswor, Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Thongam Shanti, representatives of NDDB and Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd., and senior government officials, among others.
