Feb 25, 2025: In response to the Manipur Governor’s seven-day ultimatum to surrender looted and illegal weapons, a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and tactical gear has been handed over in the last 24 hours in the valley district of Manipur.
At the Assam Rifles Camp located in Singjamei, at least 18 firearms, along with ammunition, have been handed to the authorities, while over 25 firearms, along with ammunition, explosives, combat fatigues, etc., were deposited at various police stations, namely Nambol, Moirang, Phougakchao Ikhai, and CDO Bishnupur.
At one AR Camp in Imphal, the items surrendered included 12 CMG guns, 2 .303 rifles, 2 SLR rifles, 4 SBBL rifles, 2 magazines for .303 rifles, 12 magazines for CMG guns, 2 magazines for SLR rifles, 1 IED, 33 live rounds for .303 rifles, 32 live rounds for SLR rifles, and 5 live rounds for SBBL rifles.
The surrendered items at the respective police stations include:
At Nambol Police Station, the surrendered items included one country-made single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, one country-made rifle, four SBBL guns, one double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) gun, and a .303 rifle with a magazine and 15 live rounds. Additionally, a tear smoke gun, a 36 hand grenade, a smoke grenade, a stun shell, various types of tear smoke shells, and a substantial number of protective vests and helmets were also turned in.
Similarly, at Moirang Police Station, authorities received one SBBL gun, one DBBL gun, a carbine SMG with a magazine, along with 70 rounds of .303 ammunition and 10 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. The surrender also included a 36 HE hand grenade and two tear gas shells.
At Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station, the recovered items comprised one SBBL gun, five 12-bore cartridges, a smoke bomb, three bulletproof jackets, two helmets, and a handheld Baofeng radio set.
Meanwhile, CDO-Bishnupur recorded one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with a magazine, one INSAS rifle with two magazines, multiple DBBL and SBBL guns, three .303 rifles (including a locally made one with 23 live rounds), a locally made .22 pistol, various ammunition types, and explosive devices, including a mortar shell, a stun grenade, and several hand grenades. Tactical gear such as bulletproof vests, helmets, and clothing items were also among the surrendered items.
The ongoing surrender of arms reflects continued efforts toward restoring normalcy and ensuring public safety in the region.
Authorities have reiterated their appeal for more individuals in possession of illegal weapons to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement.
