Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned today in the face of escalating anti-corruption protests led by Gen Z youth.
The unrest, sparked by a social media ban and mounting allegations of graft, turned lethal, claiming at least 19 lives and injuring many more after security forces responded with force.
Despite lifting the ban, protests intensified as demonstrators stormed government buildings, set politicians’ homes and parliament ablaze, and forced a curfew.
In his resignation letter, Oli said he stepped down “to facilitate a political solution… in accordance with the constitution.”
