The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has asserted that Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya, the key suspect now in NIA custody, arrested in connection with the brutal killing of six women and three children in Manipur’s Jiribam district last November, is an innocent boatman with no involvement in the crime.
According to KZC Information and Publicity Secretary Ginza Vualzong, the arrest is arbitrary and unjustified, raising serious concerns about due process and fairness in the investigative process.
The accused, Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya, a resident of Moinathol Dilkhosh Ghat in Assam’s Cachar district, was apprehended jointly by the NIA and Assam Police. “Investigations have revealed that Boya was actively involved in both the conspiracy and execution of the horrendous crime,” according to a statement issued by the NIA.
KZC also released a list of those who died during the conflict and questioned why no arrests have been made so far. It said this reflects continued injustices, deep bias in the justice system, and the deep-rooted conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities that cannot be addressed through isolated arrests.
